Misconduct at Workplace events
Misconduct at Workplace events – (Conferences & Christmas parties)
As a workplace investigator I call the combination of alcohol and workplace events the Danger Zone. Needless to say the conference season and the period between Melbourne Cup day and Christmas are very busy times for workplace Investigators, especially when it comes to investigating misconduct, bullying, sexual harassment and potential sexual assault complaints.
Be proactive train your staff and take reasonable steps to avoid problems, complaints, investigations, bad publicity, dismissals and unfair dismissal claims and potentially expensive litigation. Protect your staff from the bad behaviour of employees when they let their hair down and have a bit too much to drink.

In light of the recent case involving AMP and the Respect@Work: Sexual Harassment National Inquiry Report (2020) that stated since 2003, the Australian Human Rights Commission has conducted four periodic surveys on the national experience of sexual harassment. The most recent survey conducted in 2018 showed that sexual harassment in Australian workplaces is widespread and pervasive.
One in three people experienced sexual harassment at work in the past five years this means that effective sexual harassment investigation training is vitally important.
