Workplace Investigation Interviewing

Workplace Investigation Interviewing training – Complaints of bullying, harassment and sexual harassment are becoming more common in Australian workplaces, does your HR or management team have the necessary skills to investigate complaints? A crucial part of the investigation process is interviewing complainants, witnesses and respondents.

Developing the skills to ensure that you get it right the first time every time can make the difference between a professional investigative interview and ones that goes sideways.

We realise that it is often very difficult to get HR departments and Managers together for lengthy training sessions and with this in mind we have created this one day course designed to provide an understanding of the investigative interview process including planning and interviewing the parties (the complainants, witnesses and respondents) in a complaint situation.

The course includes,

  • Analysis of the complaint.
  • Planning the interview including
    • Interview room set up
    • Types of questions to ask
    • Investigative interview techniques
    • PEACE Method
  • Interviewing complainants, witnesses and respondents
  • Review of interviews

The course includes the most interview practice time of all our courses with facilitators and actors playing the parts of complainants, witnesses and alleged perpetrators

This course can be used on conjunction with or as a follow up to the 2 day investigation course as more interview practice.  In that case we spend the course conducting interviews. Especially useful for larger groups where some people may not have have the chance to conduct an interview

In addition to the skills obtained during this course participants will have opportunity to

  • Work through the interview process based on a real world scenario
  • Analyse scenarios to develop skills to identify issue and formulate interview plans
  • Develop and practice their interviewing skills by interviewing actors in the roles of complainants, witnesses and respondents
  • Receive feedback on their interviews and tips and tactics from professional investigators.
